Cryogenics, the process of preserving and working with materials at ultra-low temperatures, has moved beyond the realm of speculative science fiction into a burgeoning field of innovation. Among the latest advancements revolutionising the cryogenics landscape are Cryocanes, Cryo Coders, and Cryosleeves. These technologies are redefining preservation, data integration, and revival possibilities. Let’s explore how each component contributes to this cutting-edge field. The Mechanics of Cryocanes Cryocanes are durable aluminium canes designed for the organised storage of straws, visotubes, vials, and more in liquid nitrogen. Available in five or six ampoules per cane, they ensure efficient sample management during cryopreservation. These ultra-modern storage units represent a paradigm shift in ensuring that cryogenic preservation remains safe and scalable for growing global interest.   The Role of Cryo Coders in Cryogenics Cryo Coders are brightly coloured tabs that attach to...

The Role of Micro Biopsy Pipettes in IVF

In vitro fertilization (IVF) has revolutionized reproductive medicine, offering hope to couples facing infertility. A critical component of modern IVF practices involves precise manipulation and analysis of biological material at the cellular level. Micro biopsy pipettes, specialized tools designed for delicate and accurate handling of cells, play an indispensable role in this process. One of the primary applications of micro biopsy pipettes in IVF is during preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). PGT is a procedure performed to assess the genetic health of embryos before they are transferred into the uterus. During this process, micro biopsy pipettes are used to extract a few cells from the trophectoderm layer of a developing blastocyst. This biopsy must be conducted with extreme precision to avoid damaging the embryo. The extracted cells are then subjected to genetic analysis, helping clinicians identify chromosomal abnormalities or specific genetic disorders. By selecting the healt...

What is Controlled Freezing? Controlled freezing is a specialised method of cooling sensitive materials at a regulated pace to preserve their structural and functional integrity. Unlike standard freezers, which can cause ice crystal formation and damage to larger cells, controlled rate freezers use programmable systems to optimise the freezing process. This technology is essential for safeguarding biological specimens, tissues for transplantation, pharmaceutical samples, and even delicate food products. As highlighted by CBS, slow, controlled freezing is crucial for materials with larger cellular structures to prevent damage during the cooling process. The Cryogenic Infrastructure Behind Controlled Rate Freezers Controlled rate freezers have revolutionised freezing methodologies across industries such as medical, pharmaceutical, and food preservation. By enabling precise, slow cooling, these systems protect materials like blood, cells, tissues, and high-value food items from free...

Evaluating Open and Closed Vitrification Systems: Impacts on Oocyte Competence and Cryopreservation Practices

Abstract: Open and closed vitrification systems are commonly used for oocyte cryopreservation, but their impact on oocyte competence is not well understood. This study compares these systems, examining laboratory and clinical outcomes and the influence of cooling and warming rates. A systematic review of English-language studies up to January 2023 was conducted, involving 23 studies and a network meta-analysis. Both systems showed lower fertilization rates compared to fresh oocytes. Open systems had lower cleavage and blastocyst formation rates, while closed systems showed no significant difference. Closed systems appear less harmful to oocyte competence, suggesting their potential for standardization in practice. 1. Introduction: Since the approval of oocyte vitrification in 2013, its use has increased significantly, replacing slow freezing due to superior outcomes. Vitrification, using ultrarapid cooling and high cryoprotectant concentrations, has applications in fertility pre...
