Cryolab Cryogenic Cassettes

Image
Efficient and well-organised storage is essential in laboratories and cryogenic facilities where biological samples must be preserved with precision. At Cryolab, our Flat and Triangular Cryogenic Cassettes provide a smart, space-saving solution for securely storing cryogenic vials and straws, while enhancing sample accessibility and identification. With various sizes and colours available, these cassettes are ideal for improving storage efficiency in both liquid nitrogen and vapour-phase tanks. Flat Cryogenic Cassettes: Organised and Ver satile Cryolab’s Flat Cassettes are designed to offer structured, easy-access storage. Available in short and long lengths, they are ideal for laboratories, biobanks, and clinics handling a high volume of cryopreserved material. These cassettes allow for a clear and efficient arrangement of vials and straws. The colour-coded system — available in green, blue, yellow, red, white, and beige — simplifies sample identification and retrieval. Made fro...

Open and Closed Vitrification Systems for Oocyte Cryopreservation

Open and closed vitrification systems are commonly used for oocyte cryopreservation, but their impact on oocyte competence is not well understood. This study compares these systems, examining laboratory and clinical outcomes and the influence of cooling and warming rates. A systematic review of English-language studies up to January 2023 was conducted, involving 23 studies and a network meta-analysis. Both systems showed lower fertilization rates compared to fresh oocytes. Open systems had lower cleavage and blastocyst formation rates, while closed systems showed no significant difference. Closed systems appear less harmful to oocyte competence, suggesting their potential for standardization in practice. Since the approval of oocyte vitrification in 2013, its use has increased significantly, replacing slow freezing due to superior outcomes. Vitrification, using ultrarapid cooling and high cryoprotectant concentrations, has applications in fertility preservation and donation programs. H...

Infrastructure Supporting Controlled Rate Freezers

Image
What is Controlled Freezing? Controlled freezing is a precise method used to cool sensitive materials at a regulated pace, preserving their structural integrity and biological function. Unlike conventional freezers that can form damaging ice crystals, controlled rate freezers use programmable systems to optimise the freezing curve. This approach is vital for protecting biological samples, transplant tissues, pharmaceutical products, and delicate food items. As CBS highlights, a slow, controlled freezing process is especially important for materials with large cellular structures to avoid cellular damage. The Cryogenic Backbone of Controlled Freezers Controlled rate freezers have transformed preservation practices across medical, pharmaceutical, and food industries. By enabling gradual and accurate cooling, these systems safeguard materials such as blood, cells, and tissues from freeze-related harm. At the heart of these systems is a cryogenic infrastructure that ensures consistent and ...

Denudation Pipettes in IVF

In the field of assisted reproductive technology (ART), particularly in vitro fertilisation (IVF), precision and care are of paramount importance. Among the myriad tools used in IVF procedures, denudation pipettes play a crucial role in ensuring the success of various steps, from oocyte preparation to embryo transfer. This article explores the significance, design, and applications of denudation pipettes in IVF. What Are Denudation Pipettes? Denudation pipettes are specialised laboratory instruments designed for handling and manipulating oocytes during the IVF process. They are thin, cylindrical tools with precisely controlled diameters, used primarily to remove the cumulus cells surrounding the oocyte. This process, known as denudation, is essential for assessing the maturity of the oocyte and preparing it for subsequent fertilisation steps. Essential Tools for Cryogenic Safety

In laboratories and fertility clinics where, biological samples are stored in liquid nitrogen, efficiency, safety, and precision are vital. One essential yet often overlooked accessory that supports all three is the canister lifter—a specially designed tool used to retrieve canisters from LN₂ storage vessels without compromising sample integrity. At Cryolab, we offer a range of canister lifters tailored to suit varying storage needs. Each lifter is engineered for ease of use and built to meet the demands of cryogenic environments. Available in a variety of sizes and configurations, our lifters are compatible with both standard and daisy goblets, allowing for secure and efficient handling of stored samples. Canister lifters are available in heights ranging from 270mm to 846mm, making them suitable for a wide range of storage vessel depths. Customers can choose between 1-shelf and 6-shelf designs, depending on the level of organisation and capacity required. Whether yo...

A Complete Overview of Visotubes, Cryosleeves, and Cryocanes

In the world of cryogenic storage, ensuring the safe preservation of biological samples like embryos, sperm, and stem cells is a top priority. Laboratories and research facilities rely on specialised tools to maintain these delicate specimens in liquid nitrogen at ultra-low temperatures (-196°C). Among these essential tools are Visotubes, Cryosleeves, and Cryocanes, each playing a unique role in organising, protecting, and retrieving stored samples. Let’s take a closer look at what they are, how they work, and why they are indispensable. Visotubes: Compact and Organised Sample Storage Visotubes are small, cylindrical plastic containers designed to hold cryogenic straws, which contain biological specimens. They help maintain order in liquid nitrogen tanks while ensuring samples remain easily identifiable and accessible. Made from high-quality plastic, Visotubes are durable and can withstand extreme temperatures. They are available in multiple colours, allowing for easy diffe...
